Villa Kunang Kunang is a simple retreat with just three delightful accommodations that pay homage to a bygone era. There is a choice of a Traditional Rice Barn or two distinctive Balinese Bungalows for an enriching eco-friendly experience. All of these structures were built with integrity by a team of local craftsmen.
The Traditional Rice Barn and the Balinese Bungalows honour the island’s creative legacy.
Practical furnishings made from reclaimed timber are visually complemented by handcrafted lamps and unique artefacts. Each accommodation is cooled naturally by the soft whisper of breeze as it drifts down from the distant mountain peaks. However, remote controlled air-conditioning is also available to provide relief during the hot months of summer.
Celebrating Bali’s rich artistic heritage, the Traditional Rice Barn has been built from renewable materials to respect the surrounding environment. It is a timeless design that accommodates up to four guests in complete comfort.
The lower floor features a master bedroom with a canopied bed, a modern bathroom facility and a terrace overlooking the rice fields. An upstairs sleeping environment has twin beds suitable for adults or children.
Balinese Bungalow 1
The Balinese Bungalow is a charming thatched dwelling inspired by the island’s age-old architectural principles.
It is structurally attuned to the tropics through the use of indigenous timber and stone materials. Designed for up to four guests, the bungalow is divided into two sleeping area with comfortably appointed canopied beds and a shared bathroom facility. There is also a stylish indoor sitting space as well as a wooden terrace to relax and watch the day pass by.
Balinese Bungalow 2
The second Balinese Bungalow has a conical shaped rooftop with traditional thatching in a style that is reminiscent of a tropical island dwelling. Generous windows fill the bedroom with natural sunlight and can be left open during the afternoon to catch the breeze. This bungalow is an adult sanctuary with a double bed and a spa-inspired bathroom featuring a sunken tub to soak away all traces of travel weariness.
A picturesque swimming pool with a bridge and a stone fountain is positioned in the centre point of the property for the shared enjoyment of all guests. It uses fresh water rather than chemicals that are harmful to humans as well as the land.
The pool provides a welcome relief from Ubud’s humid weather conditions before or after going out for the day. For safety reasons, young children must be supervised by a parent/guardian at all times whilst swimming or playing around this area.
A shady restaurant pavilion surrounded by manicured lawn, swaying palms and a vegetable garden caters to all culinary needs. It serves a healthy menu of organic cuisine and light refreshments throughout the course of the day. All produce is either grown on site or purchased locally from those who practice sustainable farming techniques.
An intimate candlelight dinner or a casual BBQ set up under the stars can be arranged with prior notice. With a little luck guests will be treated to a live performance of dancing fireflies as they flit across the garden under the inky darkness of the Ubud night sky. This is a natural wonder not to be missed.
Villa Kunang Kunang is blessed with an extensive natural landscape that incorporates rice terraces and an organic garden. Fresh vegetables, herbs and spices that are grown without pesticides are used by the restaurant to create nutritious meals and wholesome snacks.
Villa Kunang Kunang is a peaceful setting that encourages guests to rediscover the simple pleasures that life has to offer. A unique eco-friendly activity at the property invites guests to plant trees that will enhance the immediate environment. Each tree is carefully nurtured to ensure optimal growth.
Surrounded entirely by natural scenery in a semi-rural area known as Andong, Villa Kunang Kunang is just a short walk or bike ride from the artistic pulse of central Ubud. The property is hidden away from the main road and accessed by a narrow footpath that is lined with flowers and species of native greenery.
It is a desirable location that offers the serenity of a private village environment. Yet is still close enough to explore Ubud on foot at a relaxed pace or enjoy a performance of classic Balinese dance and music at the nearby royal palace. Villa Kunang Kunang is approximately an hour long drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport.
