Hugging the hillside above Lombok’s dramatic, virtually untouched western coastline, Malimbu Cliff Villa combines modern luxury with breathtaking panoramas to create an exotic island retreat. Stylish, contemporary and ultra-chic this four-bedroom villa with an 18-metre infinity pool has been designed for total rest and relaxation.
Malimbu Cliff Villa is arranged over three levels to ensure every room makes the most of the stunning ocean views. Guests enter the villa at the uppermost level, via a balé (gazebo) where a large shell chandelier is suspended from the traditional serap roof. This floor houses a lobby, the huge master suite and one of the three guest bedrooms. Cream terrazzo stairs leads down to the ground floor, where two guest bedrooms are situated on either side of an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area that overlooks the swimming pool and terrace.
Occupying most of the upper floor, the palatial master suite is home to a comfortable TV lounge, bedroom, dressing room and ensuite bathroom. Featuring teak floors and a ‘wall’ of glass sliding doors, the bedroom is beautifully lit with Moroccan-style lanterns while its luxurious bathroom features a deep terrazzo tub as well as indoor and outdoor showers. Blue and white cushions inject colour into the suite along with paintings that reflect the hues of the setting sun, but what really ignites this room is the private balcony to view another sunset over the mystical Mount Agung in Bali.
The upstairs guestroom features a bed head stunningly crafted from a huge slice of naturally edged solid wood. Green pillows match the swaying palm fronds while a series of bright abstract flower paintings add a splash of colour. This bedroom opens onto a terrace furnished with egg-cup shaped swivel chairs, and from the large terrazzo tub in the ensuite bathroom guests can soak up views of the hillside and the rocky beach below.
These two bedrooms are similar in design to the upstairs guestroom, however one has twin beds (that can be pushed together to form a king). Lime green modular chairs add a modern touch along with large abstract paintings. The twin room, with a terrazzo tub in its ensuite, opens onto a covered patio furnished with an outdoor sofa and coffee table, while the king-bedded room opens directly onto the pool and features an open-air shower in its bathroom.
Designed for sociable holiday living, Malimbu Cliff’s open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area opens out onto the poolside deck with bi-fold doors that can be easily closed if air-conditioned comfort is preferred.
The Interior feature wall is delicately hand painted in a grey and white floral design, while a long teak dining table with a bench seat and six white modular chairs lies within easy access of a galley-style kitchen which is fully equipped with all the latest modern appliances. Guests can pull up a stool at the breakfast bar and watch our Chefs at work at work, or perhaps even exchange a recipe or two. To the other side of the room a comfortable beige sofa accented with aquamarine and lime green cushions creates a lovely lounge featuring a shag pile carpet, wooden coffee table and pretty butterfly wall mural. A three-seater sofa faces a large flat-screen satellite TV with surround-sound system, great for watching movies.
The focal point of Malimbu Cliff Villa is the 18m metre infinity pool that appears to drop over the cliff side into the ocean. Surrounded by a wooden timber deck shaded by fragrant frangipanis this is the ideal place to recline on a sun lounger and work on your tan or just lie back and watch the sun go down. Adjacent to the pool the alfresco dining terrace, features a round table (seating six), and is a hard spot to beat for long, lazy Lombok lunches.

The road that snakes along the north-west coast of Lombok is extremely beautiful and well worth exploring (especially as guests can avail themselves of the villa’s car and driver). Sweeping ocean views stretch across to Bali and the silhouetted outline of the hypnotic Mount Agung. Fishing villages, coconut groves, golden beaches and fields of Lombok’s pretty brown cows line the road and, apart from the area immediately around Sengiggi (Lombok’s beachside tourist town, with a choice of bars and restaurants), the countryside is quiet and unspoiled.
While the rocky beach directly below the villa is not suitable for swimming, sandy Malimbu Bay is within walking distance, and the world-famous Gili Islands with their pristine waters, golden beaches and excellent dive sites are easily accessible (15 minutes by fast boat, 30 minutes by local boat) from the small harbour of Bangsal just 10 kilometres from the villa. The villa is a 1.5 hour drive from the new Lombok International Airport.
