Visa Planning Made Simple: 8 Steps to Visit Bali Without Stress

Visa Planning Made Simple 8 Steps to Visit Bali Without Stress

Bali, Indonesia’s enchanting island, beckons travelers with its lush landscapes, vibrant culture, and serene beaches. However, before immersing yourself in Bali’s beauty, it’s essential to navigate the visa process smoothly. This comprehensive guide outlines eight straightforward steps to ensure a hassle-free journey to Bali in 2025.

1. 🛂 Determine the Appropriate Visa for Your Stay

Understanding the right visa type is crucial for a seamless entry into Bali. In 2025, the most common visa options for tourists are:

  • Visa on Arrival (VoA): Ideal for short stays, this visa allows a 30-day stay, extendable once for an additional 30 days.
  • e-Visa on Arrival (eVoA): A convenient online application that facilitates quicker processing upon arrival.
  • B211A Visa: Suitable for longer stays, this visa offers a 60-day validity, extendable twice, allowing a total stay of up to 180 days.

Ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from your intended date of entry and has at least one blank page.

2. 🌐 Apply for the e-Visa on Arrival (eVoA)

The eVoA streamlines your entry process, enabling you to use autogate scanners at the airport, reducing wait times. Here’s how to apply:

  • Visit the Official Portal: Access the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights website.
  • Complete the Application: Fill in your personal details and travel information.
  • Payment: Pay the visa fee of IDR 500,000 (approximately USD 31).
  • Receive eVoA: Upon approval, you’ll receive your eVoA via email.

It’s advisable to apply at least 48 hours before your departure.

3. 🛬 Complete the Electronic Customs Declaration

To expedite your arrival process, complete the Electronic Customs Declaration online within 72 hours before your departure. This form generates a QR code that customs officials will scan upon your arrival in Bali. Completing this step in advance can significantly reduce waiting times at the airport.

4. 💰 Pay the Bali Tourism Levy

Since February 14, 2024, a tourism levy of IDR 150,000 (approximately USD 10) applies to all international visitors to Bali. This levy supports sustainable tourism initiatives and the preservation of Bali’s cultural heritage. Payments can be made online via the Love Bali website or at designated counters at the airport.

5. 📄 Prepare Essential Documents

Ensure you have the following documents ready before your trip:

  • Valid Passport: With at least six months’ validity and one blank page.
  • Return or Onward Ticket: Proof of departure from Indonesia.
  • Proof of Sufficient Funds: Evidence that you can financially support your stay.
  • eVoA Approval: Printed or digital copy.
  • Tourism Levy Receipt: Printed or digital copy.

Having these documents readily available will facilitate a smoother entry process.

6. 🛬 Upon Arrival in Bali

At Ngurah Rai International Airport:

  • Immigration: Present your eVoA and passport.
  • Customs: Show the QR code from your Electronic Customs Declaration.
  • Tourism Levy: Be prepared to present your payment receipt if requested.

With the eVoA, you can utilize the electronic gates, expediting your entry process.

7. ⏳ Extending Your Stay (If Applicable)

If you wish to extend your stay beyond the initial 30 days:

  • VoA Extension: Visit a local immigration office to apply for a 30-day extension.
  • eVoA Extension: Extensions are not available for eVoA. Consider applying for a B211A visa if you plan to stay longer.
  • B211A Visa: Extensions can be processed online or through a visa agent.

It’s advisable to initiate the extension process at least 7 days before your current visa expires.

8. 🚫 Avoid Overstaying Your Visa

Overstaying your visa in Bali can result in fines of IDR 1 million per day. To avoid this, keep track of your visa’s expiration date and plan your departure accordingly. If you need assistance, consider consulting a reputable visa agent.

📌 Final Tips for a Stress-Free Bali Experience

  • Travel Insurance: Consider purchasing comprehensive travel insurance to cover unexpected events.
  • Health Precautions: Consult your healthcare provider regarding recommended vaccinations and health precautions for travel to Bali.
  • Local Laws and Customs: Familiarize yourself with local laws and customs to ensure respectful and lawful behavior during your stay.
  • Emergency Contacts: Note down the contact information of your country’s embassy or consulate in Bali for assistance if needed.
